About Probst Furniture Makers ...
His furniture is a mix of contemporary design and old world craftsmanship. His designs are a melding of a variety of influences, from the simplicity of the Shakers, the proportions of the Mission design; with a bit of Oriental esthetic thrown in. Currently, he has two distinct lines of furniture. The first collection that he designed was the Otto series (named after his Grandfather). It abandons the traditional white oak in favor of the more elegant grain characteristics found in cherry, maple, and walnut. These designs are enhanced with butternut or ebonized details. His latest collection has his Grandmother's namesake. The Dora Series demonstrates softer, more feminine lines, with a bit of Asian influence. This series is truly the culmination of all of those differing influences over the years, and has a look that is unique to Jim. Jim pays careful attention to each board to ensure that the wood used reveals the beauty in the shape of each piece. All works are finished with a mixture of tung oil and urethane that enhances the color and grain while adding durability. Before any pieces leaves the shop, it is personally and meticulously inspected by Jim. Probst Furniture Makers :: Hamlin, WV 25523 |
